The world’s second world paper day took place on the first of November this year – celebrating everything paper.
Paper is one of the leading industries in terms of sustainability and recycling. With thousands of years of history, it is a product that still manages to drive innovation. And it has inspired some significant societal change and important moments in history to boot!
All that has to be worth celebrating… which is why World Paper Day was inaugurated last year on November 1.
The idea of celebrating World Paper Day came from the exhibition and conference group Paperex. Paperex is a leading events group that serves the Paper and allied industries. Its events showcase the entire spectrum of products and services relating to paper and its associated industries.
The thrust of the activity to celebrate the world’s first World Paper Day, therefore, took place at Paperex’s global exhibition Paperex 2017. As well as celebratory events at the show, organizers suggested that each person could buy a paper product on November 1 to treat themselves or a significant other – whether that’s a favorite novel or book, a postcard, a simple notebook, a poster or even a box of tissue paper.
This inspirational list really brings home the power of this humble product to touch our lives.
The newly titled Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, is a big believer in the power of a handwritten note: “At the end of the day, if the guy is going to write the girl a letter, whether it’s chicken scratch or scribble or looks like a doctor’s note, if he takes the time to put pen to paper and not type something, there’s something so incredibly romantic and beautiful about that.”
The idea behind World Paper Day is to show that the industry is about something more than just an essential commodity.
So, whether you write a handwritten note to someone you love, use tissue paper to create a paper flower to be given as a gift, or record your personal thoughts in a diary or notebook, keep the power of paper alive by celebrating World Paper Day with us.
Next year’s Paperex will take place between December 3 – 6, 2019, at the 14th International Exhibition on Pulp, Paper and Allied Industries, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India.
